Summary: Although we don’t recommend you write any content specifically for a search engine, there are some factors you can keep in mind to make sure Bing likes your content and ranks it well.
Bing, like most search engines, recommends that you create good quality original content to attract more people to your website. Content is king! Bing provides a list of factors which, if you follow them, will ensure that your content is ‘Bing friendly’.
- Use key words and phrases within the text that users might think of if they were looking for the page that you’re writing. So, don’t stuff the page with lists of keywords – just keep in mind when you’re writing what people might be looking for.
- Keep your pages to a reasonable size.
- Have only one topic per page.
- Overall, your page without images should be no more than 150kb.
- Ensure all of your pages can be accessed by at least one static text link (an example of this is putting your company name only within your logo).
- Do add a sitemap and make sure that, if there are pages that are only in flash menus, javascript menus, drop down boxes etc, these appear on your sitemap (Bing offer their own sitemap tool: sitemaps tool)
- Don’t use too many folders within folders. Each web page should be accessible from between 1 and 3 clicks from the default web page.
