Selling an e-book to generate website revenue

Selling an ebookSummary: Selling an eBook involves a multi-channel strategy, including a domain name and web page with marketing copy and payment system, online advertising, affiliate marketing, social media, other sales outlets, and public relations campaigns.

Once you have an eBook ready to go, it’s time to move onto the next stage: selling your eBook. Here are some suggestions on how to maximize your visibility to sell the most copies possible.

  • Pick a domain name that matches your book title with the most commonly used available extension, such as .com or .net. If a potential customer was interested in your topic, they would enter those keywords in a search box and, if you had that as your domain name, then they would most likely find you first before others with a similar topic that had not chosen a domain name like their eBook title. If it’s not available, then think about slightly altering your title to an available domain name.
  • Buy your domain name for that web page that will sell your eBook. Of course, you might have already purchased this prior to writing a book, so, if you did, you can skip this step.
  • Develop your page to easily communicate the benefits of your eBook so that visitors will understand the value of what you have created and will be convinced that they must buy it.
  • Integrate an easy payment system, such as PayPal, so that visitors can easily make their purchase with a debit or credit card and download the eBook within minutes. The easier you make it, the more likely visitors to your eBook site will buy it.
  • Advertise your eBook by starting with free online ad sites and e-zine articles that you can publish about your eBook, which can increase your search engine ranking. Also try sites like Hub Pages and Squidoo where you can post the same article about your eBook to increase interest.
  • Recruit affiliates to help sell your eBook because this strategy expands your reach and works for you while you do other work. Try places like Click Bank to recruit affiliates that you can pay on a commission basis to exponentially increase your eBook sales.
  • Use existing eBook sales sites to increase your revenue, such as eBay, Amazon and Lulu.com, which allows you a way to feature your eBooks in another sales channel for free. This is based on commission only and offers more publicity.
  • Leverage the power of social media through Twitter, MySpace, and Facebook to virally increase your marketing and sales efforts for your eBook.
  • Write and send a press release through a wire system like PR web, which is an affordable way to reach multiple media outlets with news of your eBook.

If you already have a website, creating and selling an ebook on your niche subject is an excellent way of monetising the site.  You can use the above strategies to help promote your book further.
