Some good advice on the whole though it would be good to see some evidence for 5, 7 and 9. Not sure about keyword density in this day and age either

@Paul – Thanks for the comments and feedback.

So, to clarify on a few points:

P5 – Never use multi h1 and h2 tags. In my experience using multiple H1’s and H2’s doesn’t have a negative affect or positive affect, but from previous experiments, removing multiple H1/2 makes the page more focused, especially with keywords in these tags – a great example would be, H tags are headlines, how often in a newspaper do you see multiple headlines on one article? Maybe one or two, perfect – that’s your H1 and H2 sorted. Also on this point having to many headlines (or H tags) on one web page can detract from the main message, benefit or feature.

P7 – Try to avoid using tags for line breaks, always use tags. Google loves keywords and it’s important to tell Google from the offset what the page is about, so getting keywords at the beginning of a paragraph is the perfect way to combat this. But let’s say you have a perfectly written article that’s made to look like paragraphs by using BR tags, Google won’t recognise these keywords further down the article and you’ll lose that little bit of page juice, and I’ve taken this from a recent free website audit on and seeing the results after – Also see our keyword placement article.

P9 – Try not to use 10 or more images per webpage and make sure the image file sizes have been optimised or reduced to increase load time. I did a test on this 3 months ago and took a website which was very image heavy and reduced this by replacing images with other attributes and generally sped up the page load time, within a week, and without doing any other work the website moved up 5 places in Google from 8th to 3rd. Also something to note on this I didn’t do any further link building and no changes were done to the Google Algo.

With regards to keyword density, yes this is getting a bit old hat, but you still need to specify what the page is about and you do this through text. If you have a page that is trying to rank for “pink jumpsuits” and you talk about “blue shorts” – you can surely see what is going to happen, my advice on this would be to write content that is aimed at the user but brushes over the search engines as well.
