Yahoo & Bing vs. Google

Here are our predictions on how the Yahoo/Bing merger may affect Google and the search engine landscape.

With the announcement, back in July 2009, that Yahoo has sold its search division to Microsoft (the owners of the search engine Bing) many questions are being asked as to where this leaves the search engine market and who will be the market leaders in years to come.

At present we know Yahoo search will be powered by Bing and Microsoft’s paid advertising division will be run by Yahoo - since the announcement of the deal between the two leading online companies, details of how these businesses will work together has been vague.

We believe when these two companies really join forces, they will start to challenge Google’s market share in the search engine marketplace.

Unlike previous search engines that have come to the market such as Cuil and Wolfram Alpha, who unfortunately have failed to meet the expectations of being a Google beater, the Yahoo/Bing partnership is a mouth watering and highly anticipated event that could change the future of search forever.

Here are our predictions on how the search engines could change:

  • Changes will be made to the way websites are ranked, with major updates from both Yahoo/Bing and Google, thus changing important factors with SEO.
  • There will be Yahoo/Bing and Google bidding for the use of content on the search engines such as news articles and other popular websites, thus making websites exclusive to individual search engines.
  • Paid advertising or sponsored listing will be come more competitive with the possibility of more benefits and better returns.

Whatever the outcome of Yahoo and Bing joining forces to rival Google, it's sure to shake up the search industry forever.
