Breadcrumb Links with Results.

A great feature Google has just started to introduce is the inclusion of breadcrumb links with results.

For a good example of what breadcrumb links are, have a look at the links you can see above this article which start with “You are here”. The breadcrumb provides links back to previous pages that the user of a website has navigated through, to get to the current page that they are on. Breadcrumbs also provide the user a clear path back to the starting or entry point of a website.

The two green highlighted results have their breadcrumb trails included.

Google started to include breadcrumb trails with search results at the end of 2009. How this works is by shortening the page web address and including each step to that page into the search results.

From our point of view this is a great feature because if a web page ranks well and is a few steps deep into a website, you will get at least 3 or 4 links included with your results – just a nice little added bonus and just shows that it’s definitely worthwhile having a breadcrumb system on your website.
